Norwich network is helpful
With more than 50 clubs across America and in other countries, Norwich alumni clubs hosted 41 different freshman send-offs this past summer.
"The alumni network here at Norwich is pretty impressive," said Anthony Nerio, 19, a sophomore communications major from Clifton, N.J., who recently attended a freshmen send-off in southern New Jersey. "I was also able to meet new students that I didn't even know that go here."
The purpose of these freshman send-offs is for incoming freshmen to meet current students and to see what the growing alumni network has to offer.
"I met my future rook buddy at my freshmen send-off," said Sean Ward, 19, a sophomore criminal justice major from San Francisco, Calif. "I also met a future lacrosse teammate there as well and he was able to give me some good advice."
The NU clubs offer many other family activities that go along with the freshmen send-offs, such as ski trips, day trips back to the hill, golf outings and barbecues.
Members of NU clubs include students, parents and graduate students.
"I was able to meet two people who graduated the year before in my major, right now they just received jobs in Washington, D.C.; they said they would be more than happy to contact me in the future about possible jobs when I graduate," said Ryan Sutherland, 19, a sophomore computer and security assurance major from Palmyra, Pa.
"I was also able to meet a few active-duty alumni who were able to give me a few tips on the process of being able to commission because I have a contract with the Marine Corps," Sutherland added.
